ABF® concentrates on national and regional transportation of general commodities freight, involving primarily LTL shipments. General commodities include all freight except hazardous waste, dangerous explosives, commodities of exceptionally high value, commodities in bulk and those requiring special equipment. ABF's general commodities shipments differ from shipments of bulk raw materials which are commonly transported by railroad, pipeline and water carrier.
Established in 1923, ABF Freight System, Inc. is one of North America's largest LTL motor carriers. The largest subsidiary of Arkansas Best Corporation, ABF became a nationwide carrier in the 1970's and began offering international service in 1992. ABF provides direct service to more than 30,000 points through a network of approximately 290 service centers covering all 50 states, Canada and Puerto Rico. Through its alliance with Mexican LTL carriers, ABF is positioned to pick up and deliver freight in three North American countries with ease. Outside the continent, ABF International Services allows ABF to provide single carrier responsible service to more than 130 countries.
