Job Description

Principal of Instruction: Dover High School
 
Anticipated Start:      4/1/12 
To provide leadership at Dover High School that will ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement. To provide managerial leadership (in areas such as instruction, personnel, curriculum, student data analysis) that will support high expectations in student performance for all students and highly effective standards-based instruction in all classrooms. The successful candidate must possess strong knowledge of instruction and learning, strong interpersonal skills in working with students, staff, parents and community, and the leadership for establishing a shared vision fostering high student achievement through instructional excellence.
•The position is grant-funded for two years (2012-2014)
 
OVERVIEW:
Ensure continuous improvement in measurable student performance and achievement in order to meet AYP in two years.
  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating Dover High’s School Improvement Grant initiatives and Race to the Top Program.
  • Observe and evaluate instructional staff performance as it relates to student learning and to provide assistance and support as needed.
  • Demonstrate a working knowledge of the DPAS II evaluation system(Preferred).
  • Monitor instruction by conducting, evaluating, and providing feedback to staff through regular walkthroughs.
  • Provide leadership and instructional coaching for staff in the areas of student data analysis and designing and implementing interventions for low-performing and special education students.
  • Provide leadership and support to the school administrative team in monitoring instructional practice and student achievement data. 
  • Provide leadership and support to the Curriculum Leaders to facilitate continuous instructional improvements.
  • Implement school board policy, state statutes, and federal regulations as they pertain to instruction and accountability.
  • Plan and conduct school meetings and professional development programs related to improving student achievement results.
  • Provide training and professional development opportunities for school personnel.
  • Conduct meetings that involve staff in the discussion of instructional programs that focus on student achievement, policy changes, potential problems, and resolution of existing problems.
  • Participate in state and district trainings related to instructional improvements.
  • Work cooperatively with staff to design curriculum to address the needs of students in accordance with State and District standards and curriculum.
  • Provide leadership in developing, implementing, and evaluating the academic components of Dover High School’s extra time programs.
  • Work tirelessly to produce required deliverables on state and local initiatives such as: Race to the Top, Vision 2015, and the Partnership Zone.
  • Provide leadership in implementing and assessing Response to Intervention (RTI).
  • Work with a diverse team to screen, hire, recommend, and assign instructional staff.
  • Implement district curricula through cooperative planning with the staff, community and central administration.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
 
  • Possess or be eligible for School Principal Certification in the State of Delaware.
  • Master’s degree required
  • Minimum five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level
  • Record of success as a secondary school administrator, including increasing student achievement (3 years experience preferred)
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication, writing and public speaking skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
