Job Description Summary

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist at MUSC plays a crucial role in diagnosing and treating various medical conditions using radioactive materials. This position involves operating imaging equipment to produce images of patients' bodies and administering radiopharmaceuticals for diagnostic procedures. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment planning for patients.

Description:

Perform nuclear medicine procedures according to established protocols and physician orders.
Prepare and administer radiopharmaceuticals to patients for imaging procedures.
Operate imaging equipment such as gamma cameras, PET scanners, and SPECT scanners to capture images of patients' internal organs and tissues.
Position patients appropriately for imaging procedures and ensure their safety and comfort throughout the process.
Monitor patients during imaging procedures to ensure proper image quality and patient compliance.
Process and analyze imaging data to generate diagnostic images for physician interpretation.
Maintain accurate patient records and documentation of procedures performed.
Adhere to radiation safety protocols and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to interpret imaging results and develop patient treatment plans.
Participate in quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of imaging equipment and procedures.
Provide patient education and support regarding nuclear medicine procedures and radiation safety.
Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, walk, and lift moderate weights for extended periods.
Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for operating imaging equipment and administering radiopharmaceuticals.
Visual acuity and color vision for interpreting imaging data and identifying abnormalities.
Ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
Flexibility and adaptability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
Knowledge of radiation safety protocols and adherence to safety guidelines.
Physical stamina and endurance to perform imaging procedures throughout the workday.
