Salary: Per A.B.E.A. contract Advisor/Head Coach for Speech and Debate –
The advisor/coach for Speech and Debate at Acton Boxborough Regional High School works with a large group of enthusiastic, smart, creative and competitive groups of 9 – 12 graders. The team meets twice weekly on Monday and Friday after school until 5pm for practice. Tournaments are held primarily on Saturdays beginning in October (approx. 2 per month).
Responsibilities of the advisor (shared if more than one) include but are not limited to:
- Collecting and maintaining student registration materials/forms (both school required and team specific)
- Collecting and maintaining student and parent contact information (phone, email, social media)
- Supervising practices from September through early April, teaching and coaching events as ability allows
- Mentoring/managing the student team leaders (captains) as they teach/mentor/manage their peers
- Attending team sanctioned tournament trips or arranging for appropriate adult (CORI cleared and trained) coverage
- Arranging bus transportation or car pools for student travel to tournaments
- Managing team finances with the assistance of the school bookkeeper
- Promoting the team in the school and wider community
- Maintaining team memberships in the Massachusetts Speech and Debate League and two National Leagues
- Assisting students/parents with travel plans for National Championship tournaments in May and June
