Occ Summary

Research support and experiments in laboratory of Derek Southwell, MD, PhD, focused on study of cerebral cortex and interneuron transplantation. Experimental approaches involve tissue culture, micro-dissection, histology, electrophysiology. Job responsibilities include data collection and analysis, as well as contributions to laboratory maintenance and management.

Work Performed

  • Perform experimental tasks involving microsurgery, molecular biology, histology, physiology
  • Under supervision of senior laboratory staff, compile, analyze, and interpret data
  • Assist in laboratory maintenance and ordering of laboratory materials and supplies
  • Prepare laboratory materials such as solutions and cell culture media
  • Maintain mouse lines
  • Clean and maintain laboratory equipment

Education

Bachelor's or Master’s degree in neuroscience, biology or related field preferred.

Experience

None required beyond Bachelor's degree. Minimum five years of experience in laboratory setting without Bachelor's degree.
