General Statement of Duties

Provides technical assistance and support with programmatic and individual educational planning and to multidisciplinary teams. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations for individuals with disabilities

Essential Duties

  • Facilitates and assists with curriculum development using appropriate research-based teaching methodology.
  • Actively participates with multidisciplinary teams in the development of programmatic and individual educational plans.
  • Attends eligibility and IEP meetings as requested.
  • Conducts regular site visits, observes classrooms and provides targeted consultation and support.
  • Collaborates with educational specialists in the coordination of staff development for instructional personnel.
  • Coordinates with principals, teachers, parents and support staff regarding the development and implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEP) based on data and data driven decisions, accommodations to the standardized testing program, and Functional Behavior Assessments, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
  • Serves as a secondary tier of support to parents and service providers.
  • Provides technical assistance in the provision of specialized instruction for students with disabilities.
  • Interacts with assigned interagency personnel, professional groups, community groups, advisory committees and the staff of the Parent Resource Center.
  • Assists in the preparation of the budget and special reports.
  • Assists in the coordination of services for individual students including but not limited to pupil transportation and assignment of instructional personnel.
  • Assists in the development of plans for behavior management, homebound instruction and transition.
  • Provides supervision to non-instructional personnel as needed.
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Regular attendance is required.


Minimum Qualifications

Must have extensive knowledge of educational strategies, research-based methodology and current issues in the field of special education. Must have a working understanding of team consultation and how to build team consensus based on student needs and team concerns, be able effectively participate as part of a multidisciplinary team, and be up to date on all regulatory special education processes.


Must hold a valid Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in Special Education and have a minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience in special education. Master’s degree in special education or related field preferred.


Additional Information

The minimum salary for this 260-day position is $69,536 with a bachelor’s degree or $72,875 with a master’s. The annual salary will be prorated based upon the work begin date.
