  • Single and/or double jaw surgery

This prepares the fellow for practice as a subspecialty trained Sleep Surgeon. Equally emphasized is personal academic mentorship to develop and refine skills in teaching, research, writing, and presentation. Fellows will be expected to participate in the education of residents and medical students. The fellow will have graduated responsibility throughout the year, with an opportunity for increasing independence with advancing technical skill level and familiarity with the procedures. Salary and benefits are commensurate with a PGY-6 level.

Fellows receive a faculty appointment at the instructor level and are actively engaged in all aspects of the department’s teaching program, including medical student conferences, resident didactics, grand rounds, and teaching in the clinic and operating room. Fellows carry an independent clinic and surgical caseload in addition to other clinical duties. Opportunities for clinical and translational basic science research are plentiful. Protected academic time is provided.

The principal goal of the program is to prepare academically-inclined residency graduates for their first faculty appointments.

Clinical instructors not only undertake training in their sub-specialty of interest, but also serve as junior faculty members with a major role in resident education.

Clinical Component

The fellow will spend approximately 2-3 days per week in clinic and 3 days per week in the OR. The surgical caseload is approximately 45 to 55 skeletal cases and over 70 nasal and soft tissue cases per year. The fellow will round and participate in all inpatient care. The fellow will participate in the attending otolaryngology call pool rotation.

Research Component

The fellow will be expected to contribute to ongoing clinical projects and produce 2 publications for the year.

Educational Component

Fellows are expected to help deliver departmental didactic activities focusing on Sleep Surgery.
