Job Description Summary

This is a full-time non-tenure track faculty position to work in the undergraduate nursing programs in the College of Nursing (CON). The qualified candidate is expected to support the teaching mission of the college through clinical and didactic teaching in the undergraduate nursing programs. The candidate is expected to provide leadership in teaching clinical nursing through mentoring, guiding, and remediating student clinical and simulation performance. Successful candidates are expected to relocate to Charleston, South Carolina upon hire.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications: Earned Master’s degree in nursing. Demonstrated medical-surgical clinical expertise. Effective interpersonal communication, organizational skills and abilities. Unencumbered, active license as a registered nurse in South Carolina or another compact state. Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association, American Red Cross, or the Military Training Network. Recent (2-3 years) of actual patient care and/or supervision of students in clinical settings.

Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate will have a doctoral degree in nursing or related field and experience teaching clinical nursing skills and critical thinking, and didactic instruction.

Formal Accountability: Reports to the Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs, the Lead Faculty for Undergraduate Programs, and clinical course coordinators.

Responsibilities:
a.    Teaching students in the undergraduate programs.
b.    Implement innovative teaching strategies to foster student development of clinical practice and clinical judgment competencies.
c.    Provides remediation to students (individual or groups) as needed to foster didactic and clinical/skills assimilation. 
d.    Supervision  of pre-licensure students in clinical settings, skills lab, and simulation center. 
e.    Serve as a role model for: the role of the nurse as a member of the healthcare team; compassionate communication with patients and families;  professional behavior; professional appearance; effective interpersonal and transdisciplinary communication; and lifelong learning.
f.    Provides constructive and supportive feedback. 
g.    Grades all assignments, including clinical paperwork, in a timely manner and provides substantive feedback for areas requiring remediation.
h.    Communicates student progress with respective course coordinator.
i.    Adheres to MUSC College of Nursing policies.
j.    Maintains proficiency as an educator.
