Salary Range: $22.00/hour

Essential Functions and Objectives:

School Psychologist Externs will serve on the Bilingual Assessment Team and work under the supervision of qualified school psychologists on that team to support Spanish language psycho-educational and cognitive assessment practices across the district.

- Reads and interprets available data (language proficiency data, educational, and clinical records) to establish areas of concern for evaluation purposes.

- Works with school-based staff to establish a clear evaluation plan, determine the most appropriate language (Spanish/English) for indicated assessments.

- Works closely with parents and caregivers to ensure they understand the rationale for evaluation, IEP processes, and that their perspective is included in determining eligibility for services.

- Administers, scores and interprets a broad range of cognitive, social-emotional, and academic assessments with teachers, students, and caregivers.

- Collaborates with bilingual assessment team members and school-based staff to analyze trends in assessment and intervention data.

- Supports in the writing of detailed, integrated evaluation reports.

- Presents evaluation results and advocates for appropriate eligibility based on bodies of evidence for disabilities under consideration.

- Advocates for especially vulnerable student populations and their caregivers.


Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

- This position is available to qualified bilingual track school psychology graduate students in the University of Colorado, Denver’s School Psychologist Doctoral Program.

- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English required.

- Experience in the administration and interpretation of a variety of test instruments to evaluate cognitive ability, learning aptitudes, academic skills and eligibility for special education and 504.

- Effective time management and organizational skills.

- Experience using consultation techniques that allow for providing effective techniques that address problems in learning and behavior.

- Ability to work with culturally diverse populations.

- The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.

- Works collaboratively with others on a team.

- Aptitude for variety and changing expectations in a fast-paced environment.


Education Requirements:

- Master’s Degree in School Psychology required.
