This position is part of our County's Encore program and open only to Henrico County Police Division Police Officer retirees. Essential Duties

This position would serve as the Community Resources Officer in the Community Policing Unit. Successful applicants will attend mandatory training, which will include regaining their DCJS certification as a law enforcement officer.

Performs law enforcement duties and other assigned responsibilities in Henrico County, which supports the Police Division’s mission statement to provide innovative and collaborative police services for a safe and thriving Henrico. This is accomplished through a combination of law enforcement, educational, and community policing responsibilities.

  • Serve as the primary officer to coordinate the Business Watch program for the Police Division in accordance with the Certified Crime Prevention Community Program.
  • Research and analyze data related to crime trends, call volume and community needs to develop response strategies that align with the Division’s mission statement.
  • Assist with instructing Basic Police Academy, Citizen Academy and Senior Citizen Academy curriculums.
  • Provide experiential insights for various volunteer programs.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with Community Policing partners from regional law enforcement agencies.
  • Provide critical incident response training to community partners.
  • Educate citizens through community engagement on topics such as, but not limited to, crime prevention, traffic laws, drug awareness, and DUI education.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Prior to applying, you must have been a retired Henrico County Police Officer for at least six (6) months. - For applicants to obtain their DCJS certification as a law enforcement officer, they must have retired no more than 60 months before the date of hire for this position, - Eligible applicants must have successfully completed their probationary period while working full-time prior to retirement.

Additional Information

Hourly rate based on the employee's salary upon retirement.

Eligible applicants must be retired from the Henrico County Police Division as a Police Officer for a minimum of 30 days at time of application, but less than 60 months prior to the start date of this position in order to regain DCJS sworn law enforcement officer certification. (Code of Virginia §9.1-116)

This position follows the Henrico County General Government calendar outside the mandatory training required by the Henrico County Police Division.

Successful applicants will be hired as an hourly/temporary employee and will not be permitted to work hours that exceed 1,500 hours within a twelve-month period to allow the hourly/temporary employee to maintain VRS retirement benefits.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Virginia. Must be a citizen of the United States. Requires a pre-employment physical examination and/or medical tests administered by Henrico County Employee Health Services, the components of which are based on and appropriate to the specific sensory and/or physical demands of the job. Vision requirement is uncorrected vision greater than 20/100 (20/100 must correct to 20/40 in both eyes).

Per Police Division policy, tattoos and brandings on the scalp, face (front of a person's head from the forehead to chin), and the front of the neck are prohibited. Exceptions to this policy may be made for cosmetic tattoos and will be examined on a case by case basis.

The Henrico County Police Division has a tobacco policy which states all sworn Police Officers shall refrain from smoking or the use of any tobacco products while on duty or off duty.

A full background investigation, including a criminal history record check and fingerprinting, is conducted on all persons who are selected to proceed to the background phase of the process.
