Reporting to the System Executive Director of Case Management & Care Transitions, the System Director of Inpatient Case Management has accountability for the clinical, administrative, and human resources activities of inpatient Case Management for the MUSC Health System. The System Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, developmentally appropriate patient care in a family-centered care environment. Under the direction of the System Executive Director of Case Management & Care Transitions, this leader will strategically partner, create, and implement staffing and programming to support the organization's goals related to these areas of responsibility.

Job Summary/Purpose: Reporting to the System Executive Director of Case Management & Care Transitions, the System Director of Inpatient Case Management has accountability for the clinical, administrative, and human resources activities of inpatient Case Management for the MUSC Health System. The System Director ensures the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective, developmentally appropriate patient care in a family-centered care environment. Under the direction of the System Executive Director of Case Management & Care Transitions, this leader will strategically partner, create, and implement staffing and programming to support the organization's goals related to these areas of responsibility.

Minimum Training and Education:  Master’s degree in Nursing; or Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; or Master’s degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. 3 years of nursing experience, including 3 years of management/leadership experience.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:  Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. ACM or CCM certification preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accountability A: 25%

Provide matrix supervision to site, facility- and program-based Case Management Directors and Manager to ensure alignment with the MUSC Health System strategic vision. Advocates for departmental resources necessary to achieve desired clinical outcomes. Monitors patient satisfaction to align with organizational goals and initiatives. Ensures regulatory compliance is met for all clinical standards of patient care.

Accountability B: 25%

Establishes, maintains and builds effective working relationships with medical leadership, direct reports and appropriate interdepartmental liaisons across the MUSC Health enterprise to ensure the achievement of identified goals. Provides insight and expertise on development or program initiatives. Promotes ongoing development of staff and creates a work climate that fosters employee participation, satisfaction, and organizational commitment.

Accountability C: 20%

Actively leads and participates in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and delivery. Creates and implements departmental customer service standards. Ensures accreditation and regulatory requirements are met/ Develops robust data management system to provide historical record keeping and predictive analytics.

Accountability D: 20%

Develops and prioritizes service-based goals that support the organization’s mission, vision, and overall strategic plan. Manages service lines across the system as a whole and collaboratively works together with all hospital campuses toward one shared vision.

Accountability E: 10%

Provides fiscal management of departmental budget and operations. Oversees operations related to budgeting, staffing, and management of staff, grants, contracts. Reports financial performance monthly to executive leadership. Partners intentionally and strategically with care coordination leadership at MUSC Health System Health Plan, leveraging data to drive decision-making, in order to ensure consistent execution of care coordination vision across entities.

Strives to achieve the goal of accreditation through the following:

  • Ensures that Joint Commission (JC) and Det Norske Veritas (DNV) requirements specific to the inpatient Case Management department are fulfilled, but also understand the linkage between Case Management requirements and those of the integrated delivery system.
  • Collaborates with the Quality and Compliance departments to ensure all JC and DNV requirements are met.
