MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
All applicants are required to possess a valid PA teaching certificate in Special Education and Elementary or Secondary Education; a Master's Degree in Education preferred, 3 years of experience as a HSD teacher with satisfactory rating and attendance; and a proven track record of improving student achievement in the classroom.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Autism Coach provides leadership for Autism Teachers throughout the District. Serves as a liaison with building administrators in support of the mission and vision of the school/district. The Autism Coach serves as a model in support of collaboration, professionalism, leadership, and as one that works toward continuous improvement of and for equitable instruction for all students.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Act as a liaison between the Harrisburg School District and the PaTTAN Autism Initiative as this is a required position to ensure compliance with Autism Initiative.
  • Participates as an active member of the Special Education Department and attends leadership team meetings regularly as scheduled.
  • Participates in a solutions-based approach to solving school and student challenges.
  • Supports Autism teachers through change toward continuous improvement.
  • Actively supports the implementation of school-wide goals, initiatives, and events by working collaboratively with various committees and individuals throughout the district.
  • Plans for and facilitates ongoing Autism teacher professional development, team meetings and produces team meeting agendas and notes that are shared with appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Assists with the coordination of the teachers efforts to implement and monitor a diagnostic/prescriptive approach to meeting individual student needs in an equitable and supportive manner.
  • Promotes positive attitudes in a collegial manner.
  • Assists with communication between the Special Education team and families when necessary.
  • Stays current with technology and supports teachers on the team in the use of applicable technology
  • Ability to broker and design high quality, collaborative PLC's experiences with colleagues

HEA SALARY: In accordance per the HEA Bargaining Agreement
HEA WORK CONTRACT: 214-day position; planning, program evaluation, training occurs over the summer and outside of the contractual teacher day and calendar;
