Job Description
Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care to patients of all ages through the use of the nursing process and through promotion, maintenance and teaching. Responsible for compliance with overall nursing practice standards of the specialty area (Reports to Department Director) Notifies the Director of any problems in the unit. Takes charge of unit as needed (with appropriate competency). May be assigned on call to provide appropriate staff coverage. Floats to other nursing units assigned. Is responsible for getting to work for scheduled shifts in the event of inclement weather. Responsible for compliance with standards during assigned shift (Reports to House Supervisor). Uses established principles of delegation and supervision to direct the activities of all licensed and non-licensed care givers and support staff in the delivery of patient care during their assigned shift. Uses independent judgment to ensure optimal delivery of patient care and appropriate use of available resources.
Additional Job Description
Minimum Training and Education: Bachelor of Nursing degree or Associates of Nursing degree and currently enrolled in an accredited BSN program with two years of work experience as a Registered Nurse required. Certification in specialty area is strongly preferred. Successful completion of CSL competency-based training is required within a designated time period. Extensive knowledge of the department’s patient population, health care trends, community and regional resources and service availability to these populations. Demonstrated ability to establish effective collegial working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, medical staff, and other healthcare disciplines.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) with American Heart Association (AHA) required.
