Description
ABRSD is presently developing and implementing an MTSS Framework. The roles and responsibilities of this position will grow and change over the next couple of years. The mathematics specialist will collect and analyze various pieces of evidence of student learning and guide educators as they determine students who would benefit from targeted support in order to learn prerequisite skills to access grade-level learning. They will also support the use of the school’s mathematics program including the use of a variety of formative and summative assessment tools, structures and routines.
District-based:
  • Work closely with Elementary Building Leadership, Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator, Elementary Mathematics Coaches, and Assistant Superintendents for Teaching and Learning.
  • Meet regularly with job-alikes across the system with Elementary Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator
  • Assist in the selection and evaluation of resources and support the piloting of new materials.
  • Develop and implement District-wide professional learning
  • Participate in summer curriculum development and data activities
School-based:
  • Assist (scheduling, administration and tracking) with universal screenings and progress monitoring assessments.
  • Support educators to interpret data and use it to inform instruction, implement progress monitoring, and design interventions
  • Provide supplemental, short-term targeted and one-to-one instruction to improve specific students' skills
  • Collect, analyze and communicate quantitative and qualitative data about instruction implemented
  • Develop and provide school-based professional learning via workshops, seminars, etc.
  • Share instructional and professional resources
  • Provide data reports and analysis
  • Meet regularly with the Principal/Assistant Principal and Mathematics Coach to review school-wide and classroom level quantitative and qualitative data, and to monitor progress toward instructional goals.
  • Support distribution of resources and materials for buildings at the beginning and end of the year
  • Participate in school events related to curriculum and instruction (i.e. parent/family nigh, principal coffees, curriculum mornings)
  • Support families to engage students in mathematics experiences at home

Qualifications:
  • MA DESE Licensure in Elementary Education (1-6) required (needs to include Elementary Mathematics MTEL 53)
  • Five to ten years of classroom teaching experience at the elementary level preferred
  • Coursework appropriate to understanding through Algebra 1.
  • Demonstration of success in creating significant academic gains for students in the area of mathematics at the elementary level
  • Demonstration of significant work in leading professional learning, curriculum work as a team leader, or similar math content work with elementary staff
  • Ability to work proactively and collaboratively with staff members at various grade levels and with different levels of teaching experience
