Job Description Summary

The Associate Designated Institutional Official (ADIO) will assist the DIO on the institutional accreditation of the MUSC Regional Network as a sponsoring institution by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

In addition, the ADIO will assist for the oversight and administration of all Graduate Medical Education (GME) programs that would be established and sponsored by MUSC-Regional Network and assures compliance with established, as well as evolving ACGME Institutional, Common, and specialty-specific Program Requirements and other applicable professional, educational, accreditation, and regulatory standards.

The ADIO will report directly to the DIO and Chief Academic Integration Officer of MUSC Health.

Job Description

Serves as an institutional leader who will assist the DIO on establishing and maintaining MUSC- Regional Network’s institutional accreditation by the ACGME as a sponsoring institution.

Provides administrative oversight, educational guidance, and resource identification for all GME programs sponsored or operated by MUSC-Regional Network.

Develops and shares best practices, policies, and procedures across the GME communities around issues such as resident and faculty recruitment, managing professionalism issues, remediating deficiencies, maintaining a positive learning environment, etc.

Facilitates and secures strategic linkages between hospitals and University to achieve patient care and educational outcomes that positively affect population health.

Develops and implements Health Systems Sciences curriculum across all programs, including engagement in QI & PS projects.

Establishes and implements procedures to gather requisite program and resident data, as well as documents that address program citations or program changes, to facilitate highly functioning Clinical Competency and Program Evaluation Committees.

Designs and implements operational structures and processes that optimally integrate GME and the clinical learning environment including engagement of trainees in quality and patient safety.

Provides support for program directors and core faculty as appropriate to roles and functions; participates in selection and mentoring of program directors with appropriate skills and competencies. Develops and implements a faculty development curriculum.

Provides mentoring for PDs and faculty on G/O design for specific rotational experiences, assures alignment with eval tools. Develops and implements robust evaluation system, including resident portfolios, ILPs, and direct observation tools.

Engages proactively within a matrixed organizational structure to assure that ACGME best practices also support Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME) standards where MUSC-Regional Network sponsored programs co-exist with sites that also host COM students.

Participates in identifying solutions when challenges are communicated or reported by learners at related sites.

Collaborates with the GME office of the MUSC Charleston.

Partners with the Office of Research Administration to identity research opportunities and mentorship for residents to engage with faculty and other investigators in GME required quality projects or other research.

Cultivates a culture of innovation; pursues opportunities for innovation across the UME-GME-CME continuum.

Additional Job Description

Education Requirement:

M. D./D.O., Ph.D., Ed.D, M.B.A., M.P.H. or equivalent with suitable leadership and educational experience.

Licenses or certifications:

SC licensure or eligibility, and board certification in area of specialization preferred.

Technical/computer skills:

Microsoft Office Suite.

Institutional databases and software supporting GME Office and related Administrative Offices of the University.

Adept with virtual conferencing platforms and use.

Prior experience and Attributes:

Team-oriented, action-focused, hands-on, strategically minded, experienced educational leader.

Demonstrated experience working with primary hospital partners.

Familiarity and knowledge of ACGME requirements/policies.

Demonstrated experience leading and supervising a team.

Demonstrated experience working with faculty, administrators, and trainees in an educational environment.

8 years’ experience working in an academic health care setting, preferably GME.
