POSITION: Career and Technical Education Skills Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Waterbury Public Schools, District-wide

SALARY: $40.00 to $90.00 per hour (Based on education and experience)


PART I - POSITION SUMMARY:

The Career & Technical Education Department is committed to preparing all students for college, career, and life readiness and articulating post-high school plans for enrollment, employment, or enlistment. We focus our efforts to develop a student's competitive advantage by offering a comprehensive experience related to academic, technical, and professional skills. The department has developed a flexible academy model that includes robust career pathways and comprehensive programs of study that focus on high wage, high demand, and high skill careers. Our engaging curriculum, innovative instruction, and effective assessments infuse opportunities for students to earn college credit, participate in work-based learning experiences and earn industry-recognized credentials that leverage career connected learning, employment skills, and career-ready practices.
The Waterbury Public Schools will be hiring Specialists for the following Career Pathways:

  • The Academy of Construction, Manufacturing, and Industrial Systems
  • The Academy of Business, Finance, Marketing, & Entrepreneurship
  • The Academy of Health Sciences
  • The Academy of Education and Training
  • The Academy of Information Technology & Engineering
PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES A. EDUCATION AND GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
A. EDUCATION AND GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
  1. Hold (A) an associate degree or a bachelor's degree in the field of manufacturing, allied health, computer technology, engineering or any of the construction trades, from an institution of higher education accredited by the Board of Regents for Higher Education or Office of Higher Education or regionally accredited, or (B) a credential, as defined in section 10a-34h of the general statutes (see below), in the field of manufacturing, allied health, computer technology, engineering or any of the construction trades;
  2. (2) have a minimum of two years of work experience in the field of manufacturing, allied health, computer technology, engineering or any of the construction trades.
Credential –
• A degree or certificate awarded by a higher education institution, private occupational school, or SBEapproved alternate route to certification program provider;
• certification awarded through an exam process designed to demonstrate an individual’s knowledge, skill, and ability to perform a specific job;
• government-issued license that allows a qualifying individual to practice a specific occupation;
• documented completion of an apprenticeship or job training program
B. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
1. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess and retain a current Motor Vehicle operator’s license.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Planning and delivery of related curricula
  • Development of classroom materials, student objectives and the evaluation and assessment of student
  • Assists students in the use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries and damage;
  • Supports the learning process of students by using various instructional methods such as lectures, discussions & demonstration to enhance classroom instruction.
  • Prepares equipment and materials to support classroom instruction.
  • Uses technology or equipment as needed;
  • Uses computers, audio-visual aids, and other equipment and materials to supplement presentations;
  • Performs related duties as required.
PARTIV - WORKING CONDITIONS, PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employees appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
