Thank you for your interest in being SCREENED for the "Preparing New Principals"  program.


The purpose of the PNP program is to recruit, select, hire and develop school principals who can improve teaching and learning in all of our schools, specifically those with the greatest needs.
To be eligible for consideration you must already have:
  • Certification in Educational Leadership
  • 3 years of experience as an Assistant Principal and be rated Effective or Highly Effective for each of those years
 
Recruitment and Selection Goals
  • Develop a pool of effective instructional leaders who can fill principal vacancies as they occur in Hillsborough County Public Schools.
  • Select applicants for the PNP pool based on projected vacancies using our five year vacancy model (to include school match) and rigorous selection system aligned to high leverage principal competencies.
  • Effectively communicate criteria and processes for selection to internal and external communities.
Course Content and Pedagogy Goals
  • Provide a high quality two-year development program for PNP participants, that includes job embedded, real-world learning activities that are aligned to state leadership standards and district principal competencies.
  • Assess candidates using instruments that will provide specific data for areas needing growth and create professional development plans based on the data.
Clinical Practice and Mentoring Goals
  • Provide on-going mentoring, support, and feedback for PNP participants through daily interactions with their site principal as well as monthly interactions with their assigned coach.
  • Conduct ongoing formative and summative assessments of PNP interns throughout the two year program.  Train site principal for effective supervision of PNP intern.
PNP Program Components (2 Year Program)
  • 12 Saturday Sessions
  • 6 Operational Management Sessions
  • 4 Required Courses
  • Job-Embedded Learning Activities
  • Candidates receiving coaching from their Principal Mentor and a Principal Coach
  • Exit Screening includes a 90 Day Entry Plan and Interview

  • Developing Leadership Teams
  • Developing Teachers and School-Wide Professional Development
 
The Exit Screening requires each candidate to create a 90 Day Entry Plan. The Entry Plan is presented to a committee and is scored using the competency rubric.
Once accepted into the Preparing New Principals Program, candidates will take part in the Eckerd College Leadership Development Institute during one of the last two weeks of June.  Preparing New Principal participants must attend all of the mandatory PNP Sessions, complete all of the course work and pass the Exit Screening before being placed in the Principal Pool. Only candidates who pass the Exit Screening process will be eligible for the Principal Pool in Hillsborough County Public Schools.
