Middle School - Mathematics Teacher - Pattonville Heights - 2018-2019

Position Purpose:
Under the general supervision of the school principal(s) to develop students' skills and competence in basic and complex mathematical principles, equations, formulas and calculations, as well as an understanding of the application of mathematics in the solution of practical problems.

Essential Functions:
  • Develops and administers mathematics curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives.
  • Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area, translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenges students, and best utilizes available time for instruction.
  • Teaches knowledge and skills in mathematics, including concepts such as formulas, calculations and geometry. Promotes creative thinking and analysis.
  • Designs learning activities to demonstrate the application of mathematics to everyday problem solving.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, and conducts individual/small group instruction as needed.
  • Implements district curriculum and standardized assessments.
  • Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, professional development, department/district meetings, and/or by conducting research.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records regarding grading and attendance as required by district/building procedures/policies.
  • Encourages involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents/guardians.
  • Ensures that student behavior conforms to the school's standards and school/district policies, and establishes/ maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve an effective learning environment.
  • Coordinates with other professional staff members, participates in faculty meetings, and serves on appropriate committees.
  • Selects and requisitions appropriate learning materials/instructional tools consistent with district curriculum.
