Food Service Assistant
Eastern Elementary School (Northern Middle B
ase Kitchen)
Grade 1 of the ESP Salary Scale (New Employee Starting Wage $10.78)
5.5 Hours/Day, 10-Month Work Year (7:45 am - 8:45 am & 9:15 am - 1:45 pm)



Minimum Requirements
Has the ability to work cooperatively with others, accept direction, assume leadership responsibility and complete tasks as assigned.
Holds Serv-Safe Certification or the ability to obtain Serv-Safe Food Handler Certification within 1 year of employment and to keep current throughout employment.
Have willingness to be assigned at any site within the base operation.
Have regular and predictable attendance which is an essential function of this position.
Has the ability to meet physical requirements: prolonged standing; physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials; stooping, bending and reaching; tolerate noisy, crowded environment, food odors, and temperature variations; and loading and transporting of meals.
Has the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications 
Has Food Service experience.
Has knowledge of food service equipment; appropriate operations, cleaning, and sanitizing.
Has knowledge or ability to learn quantity cooking.
Has the ability to communicate effectively with members of the food service staff, school staff, students and the community.
Has the ability to use computer systems to perform work functions.

Role Responsibilities
Prepares and/or assists in preparing food as assigned.
Completes clean-up and dishwashing duties as assigned.
Reports food supply needs and problems to the Site Supervisor.
Serves food to students and adults as assigned using portion control standards as directed.
Maintains clean work area.
Operates kitchen equipment in a proper manner to assure safety as well as to avoid damage to the equipment.
Assists with any phase of the kitchen operations.
Operates computerized cash register system.
Adheres to all health and safety policies.
Adheres to regulations and procedures for students with special dietary needs.
Attends mandatory training as required by program standards.
Understands and supports the philosophy and mission of the WCPS Food & Nutrition Services department.
Demonstrates courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Completes other duties as assigned.
