School Bus Driver Bus 477
Rockland Woods Elementary, Lincolnshire Elementary, Ruth Ann Monroe Primary, Eastern Elementary and Bester Elementary 
Parking location 820 Commonwealth Avenue
Grade 6 of the ESP Salary Scale (New Employee Starting Wage $15.76)
Approximately 7.5 Hours/Day, 10-Month Work Year


Minimum Requirements
Meets all licensing requirements of the Motor Vehicle Administration for Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
Meets all the requirements of COMAR l3A.06.07 (PUPIL TRANSPORTATION) for School Bus Driver.
Have not more than two current points on the driving record, and have a satisfactory past driving record.
Successfully completed the Maryland State Department of Education required pre-service instruction.
Have no evidence of a criminal record which makes the individual unfit for employment as a school bus driver.
Have at least five years driving experience, during which time a valid driving license was held.
Current certified school bus driver with WCPS.
Must be 21 years of age to operate a school bus.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Satisfactorily completes the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Administration physical examination for school bus drivers.
Has the ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications
Holds High School Diploma/GED.
Demonstrates an aptitude and competence for the position of School Bus Driver.
Provides acceptable references as to one's ability to work with and supervise children.

Role Responsibilities
Responsible for pupil accountability.
Obeys all traffic laws.
Observes all mandatory safety regulations for school buses.
Maintains discipline when students are on bus.
Reports undisciplined students to the proper authority.
Keeps assigned bus clean.
Keeps to assigned schedule.
Performs a pre-trip inspection prior to each route, checking for mechanical defects.
Performs a post-trip inspection following each route, checking for damage, students and belongings.
Notifies the proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
Discharges students only at authorized stops.
Exercises responsible leadership when on school trips.
Transports only authorized students.
Reports all accidents immediately and complete required reports.
Enforces rules and regulations for students riding the bus.
Operates the bus within the guidelines as outlined in the WCPS School Bus Drivers Handbook.
Presents their assigned bus for bus inspection meeting all requirements as established by the Transportation Department.
Uses all safety equipment properly including use of driver’s seat belt and shoulder harness.
Demonstrates courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Performs other school bus related duties as may be assigned.
