POSITION TITLE: Office Support  (Eastern North Carolina Regional Skills Center)
REPORTS TO: Director
BEGINNING DATE: Open Until Filled
 






KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school staff and the public
  • Considerable knowledge of and ability to use grammar, vocabulary, spelling, and punctuation
  • Considerable knowledge of office practices and procedures
  • Ability to keyboard with accuracy and speed
  • Ability to compile and summarize information
  • Ability to prioritize and schedule variable work
  • Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles
  • Ability to exercise good judgement, take initiative, and work with minimal supervision. 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
 
High school graduate and two (2) years of related clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience
 
 
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 months
 
SALARY:  Salary Grade 57 (Office Support II)
 
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 
  1. Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions of the school using computerized accounting program. (Receipt all monies, check invoices, pay all bills, reconcile bank statements, make bank deposits, etc.)
  2. Submit payroll data to the central office for all employees including attendance and substitutes
  3. Enter data with accuracy at high speed with extra care and constant attention to the security of confidential student information
  4. Understand the constraints of the student information management system in order to identify and correct data errors and to generate federal, state and local reports effectively
  5. Complete necessary reports for school administration, i.e. fire drill, property change, sales tax, principal's month­ly report, sanitation, etc.
  6. Secure substitute teachers for teacher absences
  7. Assist with welcoming visitors and routing all incoming calls
  8. Explain school policy to parents both on the telephone and in person
  9. Assist with purchases of supplies for school and office
  10. Assist teachers with copy work and supplies
  11. Handle administrative correspondence for the school
  12. File student insurance claims
  13. Perform other duties, as necessary, to assist with school administration 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Ability to be physically active, which includes, but is not limited to, standing, pushing, pulling, squatting, bending, sitting and walking.
  • Ability to reach with hands and arms routinely.
  • Ability to carry furniture such as tables and chairs, supplies and materials
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds routinely and 30 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to visually and auditorily effectively communicate with staff and students.
  • Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
  • Must be able to drive to variety of locations necessary to conduct school business.
  • Must be able to tolerate a noisy, busy work environment with occasional very loud noises.
