 POSITION TITLE:  Mental Health/Behavior Specialist
 REPORTS TO:  Executive Director of Student Services
 BEGINNING DATE:  Open Until Filled



 
 
 
 
 
EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
 
Minimum Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW); LCSW Preferred
Minimum Two Years’ Clinical Experience
School Social Work License or Ability to Obtain License
  
TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 Months
 
SALARY:  North Carolina Teacher’s Salary Schedule
 
FLSA Status:  Exempt
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Assessment of Student and School Needs: Effectively and appropriately assesses the behavioral and mental health needs of students through effective use of data including psychological assessments and classroom observations.
  2. Direct Services/Service Delivery: Uses knowledge and understanding of the reciprocal influences of home, school, and community to intervene for student success via such practices as assessment, crisis intervention, coordination with caregivers, conflict resolution, and coordination of school and community services. 
  3. Advocacy: Advocates for appropriate services for students and their families.
  4. Staff Services:  Provide direct services to teachers and administrators through observations, coaching sessions and the development of adaptive skills and the replacement of undesirable student behavior.  Assist teachers in identifying causes and trends in behaviors that negatively impact classroom instruction.
  5. Program Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation: Meets with school staff and administration to create effective behavioral intervention plans and work with school staff to assure those plans are implemented appropriately and that those plans promote positive classroom experiences for all students.
  6. Accountability: Advocates, facilitates, and contributes to School Social Worker accountability for outcomes aligned with local, state, and federal policies and guidelines.  Maintain records and provide reports of services rendered. 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 
  • Must be able to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, carry, push, or pull.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Must be able to visually, auditorily, and physically monitor student performance and conduct.
  • Must be able to facilitate the evacuation of students during emergency situations and/or drills.
  • Must be able to drive to a variety of school sites.
