Food Service Assistant 
Boonsboro Middle School (Boonsboro 
Base Kitchen)
Grade 1 of the ESP Salary Scale (New Employee Starting Wage $10.83)
3 Hours/Day, 10-Month Work Year (10:30 am - 1:30 pm)


Minimum Requirements
Ability to work cooperatively with others, accept direction, assume leadership responsibility and complete tasks as assigned.
Hold Serv-Safe Certification or the ability to obtain Serv-Safe Food Handler Certification within 1 year of employment and to keep current throughout employment.
Willingness to be assigned at any site.
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
Ability to meet physical requirements: prolonged standing; physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials; stooping, bending and reaching; tolerate noisy, crowded environment, food odors, and temperature variations; and loading and transporting of meals.
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Qualifications
Food Service experience.
Knowledge of food service equipment; appropriate operations, cleaning, and sanitizing.
Knowledge or ability to learn quantity cooking.
Communicate effectively with members of the food service staff, school staff, students, and the community.
Ability to use computer systems to perform work functions.

Role Responsibilities
Prepare and/or assist in preparing food as assigned.
Complete clean-up and dishwashing duties as assigned.
Report food supply needs and problems to the Site Supervisor.
Serve food to students and adults as assigned using portion control standards as directed.
Maintain clean work area.
Operate kitchen equipment in a proper manner to assure safety as well as to avoid damage to the equipment.
Assist with any phase of the kitchen operations.
Operate computerized cash register system.
Adhere to all health and safety policies.
Adhere to regulations and procedures for students with special dietary needs.
Attend mandatory training as required by program standards.
Understand and support the philosophy and mission of the WCPS Food & Nutrition Services department.
Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor to all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools.
Complete other duties as assigned.
