Job Description:

VCU Health System's IM _ Center Advanced Health Management is seeking a full time Patient Access Representative to handle all business functions in assigned area which may include reception, scheduling and registering patients for appointments and/or procedures. Greets patients; secures the appropriate patient and insurance information; ensures that registration data is correct and accurate; validates insurance eligibility, enters information into appropriate systems; collects co-pay (if applicable); and informs patient of provider delays. Provides quality customer services to patient of all ages, their families, visitors, medical staff, clinicians and co-workers ensuring that everyone is treated courteously, quickly and with respect.


Responsibilities

Performs daily activities with minimal supervision. Functions in a self-directed manner to accomplishments of routine activities.

Notifies supervisor of issues involving violation of VCUHS policies or procedures as soon as possible.

Depending on assignment, may be required to work off-shifts and/or weekend and holidays. Incumbents may be considered essential depending on departmental assignment.

Qualifications

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent

Previous experience with personal computers, Microsoft Office software and navigating the Internet

Previous experience keyboarding with the ability to type 40 words per minute

Preferred

Post high school education in healthcare or business related coursework

One (1) year of patient appointment scheduling & registration; working with medical insurance (HMO, managed care, private carriers) using medical terminology; and/or coding (HCPCA, ICD-9/10, CPT)
