Position: Science Instructional Lead Teacher 6-8 (Title I)

This is a Federally funded position.

This is not an administrative/supervisory position.

190 - Day Teacher Position

Salary:  190 - Day Teacher Salary Scale   

All new teachers are required to attend the New Teacher Induction Program on July 17, 18, 19, 22, and 23, 2019.



Duties:

The Title I Middle Grades School Science ILT (SILT) is directly responsible to the school principal, and serves as a “lead teacher”, supporting teachers in improving practices The SILT must be able to perform tasks involving sitting, walking, standing, and lifting, and occasional crouching and kneeling. Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential functions in performing required tasks, duties and responsibilities.
 
  1. Work with administrators and teachers in the  schools to support science instruction and student achievement.
  2. Plan collaboratively with teachers for effective science instruction.
  3. Develop appropriate activities for science instruction.
  4. Provide model lessons in the classroom.
  5. Develop strategies that can be effectively utilized within the classroom.
  6. Lead in-service sessions for science teachers.
  7. Screen science materials that might be useful to teachers.
  8. Develop a resource library of books, media, and materials for teachers and students.
  9. Incorporate data analysis to help schools with effective strategies directly related to student achievement in science (data-driven instruction).
  10. Serve as a resource person in science for teachers.
  11. Keep immediate supervisors (Principal, Assistant Principal of Instruction and Coordinator of Science) informed of all facets of the instructional program.
  12. Attend staff development and conferences, as directed.
  13. Assist with Georgia Performance Standards training as needed above basic implementation.
  14. Provide additional professional learning unit classes as needed.
  15. Adhere to practices outlined in the Georgia Teacher Duties and Responsibilities Instrument.
  16. Work cooperatively with all personnel to implement an effective educational program. 
Qualifications: 
  1. Hold valid Georgia Professional Education Certification; 6-8 Science certification preferred.
  2. Minimum of five (5) years classroom experience teaching Middle School Science.
  3. Masters’ Degree preferable; Leadership certification, desirable.
  4. Ability to communicate clearly through both oral and written correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  5. A sound understanding and knowledge of science concepts found in Georgia’s K-5 Science Curriculum.
  6. A working knowledge of standardized test scores and data disaggregation.
  7. Ability to apply sound educational principals to various classroom situations.
  8. Considerable knowledge of Microsoft Office products and the desire to learn how to operate various educational software packages.
  9. Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and community.  Ability to keep financial and personal data confidential.
  10. Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
