Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY
  • The chief objective of this position:

    • Receives and delivers Anatomic Pathology specimens and reports. Registers and accessions all patient material as required for the Department. Compiles appropriate case data including correct specimen designation in regards to specimen site so that appropriate/correct testing is performed by pathologist/technologist. Familiarity with medical procedures, medical terminology and anatomy. Proper use of personal protective equipment and familiarity with bloodborne pathogens and other laboratory hazards. Retrieves specimens from OR. Maintains workload recording to include quality control as required for area for Department. Knowledge of CPT and ICD-9 codes. Performs customer service responsibilities. Keeps current with continuing education in areas of compliance and insurance billing requirements.
  • Experience PREFERRED

    • Previous experience in a hospital setting
    • Previous experience in a medical office or laboratory setting with exposure to anatomy and patient samples
    • Previous experience with patient registration and accessioning samples
  • Education/training REQUIRED: (Note: work experience may be considered in lieu of credentials not required by law with HR approval. Work experience must be specific to role)

    • High school diploma or GED
