General Statement of Duties

Closing Date: This position closes on Monday, April 29, 2024.

Provides professional, intensive, specialized continuing case management services involving concentration in the areas of child and adult welfare; performs a broader scope of duties requiring routine utilization of greater professional knowledge and independent application of professional skill; performs other duties as assigned.


Essential Duties

·

Case management to families following Child Protective Services involvement & families with children at risk of foster care or other out of home placement

  • Participates in the case assignment & transfer process and removal team meetings to support the placement of children in foster care
  • Provides crisis intervention & counseling
  • Conducts CANS assessments & trauma screenings
  • Writes individualized services plans with families
  • Participates in FAPT, Family Partnership Meetings and Child & Family Team Meetings
  • Completes case documentation in the child welfare database using COMPASS & eScribers
  • Participation in court proceedings through testimony and preparing petitions, affidavits & court reports

Participation in unit, division, agency & community meetings and on committees and task forces related to the work of the department

Coverage for child welfare on-call (CPS, preservation, prevention & foster care) approximately 14 nights per calendar year (when fully staffed)

Participation in shelter team operations as designated by the Emergency Operations Center

Accepts additional assignments when necessary

Considerable knowledge of current social, economic and health concerns; considerable knowledge of the federal Social Security Act and of casework philosophy, methods and practices; considerable knowledge of individual and group behavior and of current literature and trends in the social work field; knowledge of community resources available to meet clients needs; ability to make independent judgments; ability to understand and interpret laws and regulations and to deal effectively with the public; ability to plan and organize work; ability to gather facts and report them accurately and to write reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Three (3) years of relevant social work experience; OR: Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.


Additional Information

This position may be filled as a Family Services Specialist I (salary: $52,486 - $96,551) or a Family Services Specialist II (salary: $57,646 – 106,042) depending on the successful candidate’s qualifications and skills and the needs of the department at time of hire.

• Valid driver’s license to perform assigned duties at various locations.

• Successful completion of all training requirements established pursuant to the VA 63.2-208. Standards for personnel.
