General Statement of Duties

Provides year-round full service care and maintenance for open spaces, park land, greens and other non-sports field properties under the purview of the Division of Recreation and Parks; properly cleans and maintains equipment; year round full-service field management, setup, marking, and repairs for all types of sports fields or greens provided for play/events Countywide; maintains greens and related areas; maintains accurate records; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

General knowledge of the Janitorial trade including a variety of maintenance and manual tasks; willingness to perform routine and repetitive manual work; stamina; physical conditioning that permits such activities as heavy lifting, bending, walking or standing for long periods of time, climbing ladders, stooping and working under adverse temperatures and/or weather conditions. Schedule flexible to work both nights and weekends.

Needs basic experience in the janitorial trade including; mopping, sweeping, dusting, trash collection, window cleaning, and floor and general building maintenance. Ability to prioritize daily interior and exterior building cleaning tasks so as to not impact internal or external customer service.

Customer service to include working around, interacting and assisting staff with internal and external customers from all backgrounds. Basic knowledge of computers helpful.

Ability to understand both oral and written instructions; specifically, work orders and room diagrams related to setting up meetings, conferences, athletic equipment as needed. Ability to learn and safely operate all types of custodial equipment including (but not limited to) buffers, burnishing machines, auto-scrubbers, power washers, water vacuums, hand-blowers, carpet extractors, etc. Understands the process for cleaning all types of human or animal waste, blood-borne pathogens and related custodial tasks using approved and appropriate safety and personal protection methods.

Performs manual labor as a custodian for Recreation Services in an hourly capacity; does related work as required.

Ability to work a flexible work schedule to meet departmental needs including varying shifts during days, nights and weekends.


Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from high school/GED and prefer some relevant work experience; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Requires possession of a valid driver's license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
