Receives administrative direction from the SPPT Program Coordinator other administrative official of a higher grade
FLSA DESIGNATION
Exempt; 10 months; 15 hours per week; flexible hours, $30 - $38 per hour. Note: This is a part time, non-union, grant-funded position with no benefits
that exists as long as funds are available.

PART I - SUMMARY OF CLASSIFICATION
This class is responsible for providing part-time professional nursing services in schools, case finding and referrals, and health resource information to teachers, students, families, and staff associated with the Support for Pregnant and Parenting Teens (SPPT).
PART II - MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
A. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
General Experience:
  1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing program.
  2. Two (2) years of experience as a registered professional nurse in a clinical nursing field, preferably pediatric experience.
  3. Experience working with high school aged students preferred.

Special Requirement:
  1. Incumbents in this class must possess and retain a license as a Registered Professional Nurse in Connecticut.

B. CREDENTIALS:
C. LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  1. Registered Nurse Licensure.
  2. Current Adult/Child/Infant CPR First Aid Certification.
  3. Incumbents in this class may be required to possess a current Connecticut Motor Vehicle Class D Operator License.

D. CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
E. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Thorough knowledge of nursing principles, interventions, and techniques related to pre­ and post-natal care, infection control, communicable diseases, universal health precautions, and personal hygiene;
  • Knowledge of child development, age-related health risk factors, mental health issues, chronic and acute health conditions, and current pediatric health issues;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • The ability to use health screening equipment;
  • Ability to frequently walk from location to location as well as the ability to climb stairs and occasionally carry medical equipment weighing 20 pounds over distance.

PART IV - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties.
  • Under the direct supervision of the SPPT Program Coordinator responsible for performing registered professional nursing services, within the context of the Nurse Practice Act and nursing standards;
  • Provide routine and emergency treatment of students;
  • Promote public health and maintain health records of SPPT clients in accordance with state laws, Public Health regulations, and school district policies;
  • Maintain and organize accurate medical records;
  • Instruct, teach and lead discussions for large and small groups;
  • Initiate and exercise independent judgment and discretion in carrying out program responsibilities;
  • Respond quickly to medical emergencies;
  • Drive to all work locations;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
