Description

Implements the Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) Family Engagement Framework so that MPS staff and families have what they need to be equal partners in student achievement and school improvement. Works to initiate, align and coordinate family and community partnerships with Parent Coordinators at assigned schools to meet the needs of students, families and schools as outlined in school improvement plans.

The salary range is $58,299.50 ¿ 83,687.24 (12 months/260 days)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (political science, communications, human services, education, etc.) or a combination of work and educational experience. Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in community relations/outreach, business development, volunteer management, fundraising, program management or activities related to the essential functions.
  • Previous supervisory or coaching experience highly preferred.
  • Must be knowledgeable of community resources and services available to families.
  • Bilingual Spanish highly preferred
  • A combination of education and experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure standard implementation of family engagement framework at assigned schools (Could be assigned between 15 and 45 schools with varying levels of need) by indirectly overseeing the work of school-based parent coordinators.
  • Build capacity of schools to function as community schools by engaging and aligning business, community and family partnerships around a common vision (school improvement plan).
  • Serve as liaison to other departments as assigned to increase cross-collaboration and information sharing around family and community engagement. Potential assigned areas include: special education, refugee and immigrant services, community schools, bilingual education, etc.
  • Work to assist parent coordinators and principals in engaging multiple voices in decision-making and implementation through school governance councils, parent groups and the district advisory council.
  • Increase school knowledge on culture of families and community by coordinating joint initiatives between assigned schools and surrounding neighborhoods for better partnership and service delivery to all families.
  • Develop and implement training and/or tools for parent coordinators and other staff on family and community engagement best practices. Analyze needs of assigned schools to provide continuous improvement opportunities. Monitor activities and serve as a point of contact for parent coordinators at assigned schools through monthly reporting and site visits.
  • Develop and implement the Family Empowerment University (a collection of workshops and development opportunities designed to support MPS families and schools working as equal partners in student success and school improvement):
  • Produce course catalogs with workshops offered,
  • Develop tracks or institutes around specific, high-demand topics,
  • Maintain relationships with partners providing different workshops,
  • Schedule workshops at schools,
  • Facilitate MPS trainings for families and staff,
  • Work with families to develop trainings for MPS staff.
  • Maintain transparent communication to families through regular updates to the MPS website, contributions to newsletters, and implementation of public awareness campaigns.
  • Create and implement special projects, initiatives and district-wide events as designated by the Superintendent
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
