POSITION TITLE: Media Specialist Position
DEPARTMENT/SCHOOL: West End Elementary

PAY SCALE: Based on certification and experience
REQUIREMENTS:
- Educational Level: Master's Degree preferred
- Certification/License Required: Media Specialist P-12
- Experience: Recommended three or more years experience in education
- Physical Activities: Routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities
- Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Exceptional written and oral communication; ability to build positive relationships, organizer, ability to market the district, and share the success stories of the district, ability to deal with and communicate effectively with individuals and groups; ability to manage multiple projects; ability to build consensus and work effectively with all stakeholders. Ability to manage social media and the district’s website.
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Responsible for all social media management.
- Identifies social media trends and opportunities.
- Coordinates, launches, and manages all social media campaigns.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining the communications portion of the Emergency Operations Plan.
- Responsible for oversight of the Ricoh 9210 printer, including all printer requests.
- Responsible for collecting, tracking, and evaluating all media coverage.
- Responsible for identifying and managing media opportunities and threats, including on social media.
- Develops and provides strategic communication insight and assistance.
- Writes news articles for the Rome City Schools website.
- Prepares an annual communications and public relations plan for the superintendent’s approval.
- Serves as information liaison between the school system and the community.
- Serves as liaison between the district and the news media.
- Writes and distributes all media releases and advisories.
- Coordinates with district administrators and other staff members, as appropriate, in publicizing and promoting performances, exhibitions, displays, dedications, or special programs sponsored by the schools.
- Responsible for the development and implementation of all crisis communications.
- In times of crisis, responsible for communicating with applicable liaisons and reporting information to designated administrators.
- Serves as school district liaison, as appropriate, in matters involving outside agencies.
- Provides professional public relations counsel and assistance to the administration, Governing Board, schools, parent and student groups.
- Responsible for coordinating and supervising independent contractors' services.
- Before the final publication, review and edit if needed.
- Recommends innovative avenues of communication for external and internal audiences.
- Creates and manages the media budget.
- Develops and maintains accurate records of the district’s public relations program.
- Coordinates with administrators and staff, as appropriate, recognition programs for employees and students.
- Responsible for identifying ways communications processes can be streamlined, implementing change, and educating all pertinent stakeholders.
- Manages the development of the school system website.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Administration.
