Position Title: Assistant Band Director

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

A valid Georgia Educator Certificate as required by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.

Goal:

Create and maintain a learning environment that fosters success in all children and that allows them to grow in their knowledge and performance of music and in their awareness of personal responsibility.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
  • Exhibits professionalism in all job-related situations; follows professional ethics in all work related activities; presents a personal appearance which enhances the image of the school.
  • Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance. Instructs all students and ensures each student’s progress with as much individualization as possible.

  • Maintain a team focus in working with other professionals both in RCS and outside the system.

  • Foster a positive image of the total RCS music program while working through the appropriate channels with parents, community, and supervisors to improve the total program.

  • Be at either RHS or RMS bands performances.

  • Report to all Rome high school football games on time. Leave when dismissed by the DOB.

  • Attend band booster meetings

  • Attend weekly directors meetings at the discretion of DOB.

  • Participate at events hosted by the band program.

  • Report for two weeks of band camp prior to teacher pre-planning (date and locations assigned by the DOB).
  • Participate in GMEA State auditions & events.
  • Participate in GMEA District Honor Band (auditions & event).
  • Participate in GMEA LGPE (with participating RCS Band).
  • Participate in GMEA (or DOB approved) Solo & Ensemble Festival. Directors will notify their students on or before the beginning of second semester of the importance of the event, rules, fees, and deadlines. Directors will help interested students in selection of music and instruction.
  • Participate in Band Meetings & Event.
  • Instruct in and continue to develop the 6th grade band programs at assigned schools. Provide the DOB with a schedule of PTO performances and/or any other activity involving each elementary band prior to the events.
  • Participate in Winter Elementary Band Concert, instrument trade-up, and 5th grade orientation.
  • Assume any other duties and responsibilities deemed appropriate by the DOB and/or the Supervising Principal.
  • Prepares adequately for responsibilities to be assumed when absent.
  • Accounts for student attendance and punctuality.
  • Follows all district, state and federal policies and procedures.
  • Directs the conduct of students in accordance with policies at all times.
  • Takes all reasonable measures to protect students' health and safety.
  • Seeks to improve through professional development and evaluation activities.
  • Maintains prompt and professional communication with all stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by appropriate administrator.

Duties Specific to High School Assistant Directors:

  • High School practices three afternoons per week in the fall through the last marching festival - then once a week until football season is completed.
  • High School concert sectional and/or full band rehearsal for concert festival will be held two times per week through the district concert festival.
  • Assist RMS band with after school pre-concert festival rehearsals after the RHS concert festival is completed.
  • Begin Jazz Band & other ensemble rehearsals prior to the end of second semester.
  • Participate in GMEA Jazz LGPE
