The Recreation Manager (Coordinator II) of Design and Development provides support for the implementation of Milwaukee Recreation¿s Outdoor Recreation Facilities Master Plan. Primary duties include serving as the lead project manager for playfield revitalization projects consisting of coordination of community engagement efforts, design development and review, consultant management, preparation and management of construction related documents, construction inspection, and budget monitoring.

Salary Range: $79,171 - $114,078

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or closely aligned field. MS degree in landscape architecture is preferred.

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time professional experience. Project management experience in park planning or other public area development preferred.

Certifications (and/or ability to obtain within one year of hire):

  • Certified licensure as a Landscape Architect, Architect, or Engineer, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the implementation of Milwaukee Recreation¿s Outdoor Recreation Facilities Master Plan.
  • Provides guidance and supervision to Recreation Supervisors and part-time staff to ensure professional growth, and fulfillment of job duties and responsibilities.
  • Works directly with architects and engineers in the development of design and construction documents. Reviews contract documents prior to bidding for adherence to scope, Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) requirements, and project budget. Identifies inconsistencies in documents and assists in value engineering.
  • Provides design services and activities associated with smaller projects.
  • Manages construction administration activities on major playfield renovations. Assists in the development of project budgets. Monitors contractor performance to ensure that work is completed by qualified personnel according to contract documents. Provides inspection reports and represents MPS at construction project/progress meetings.
  • Oversees and manages the services of construction managers, MPS construction and shop/trade inspectors, landscape architects, architects, engineers, and contracted inspectors.
  • Conducts pre-bid and pre-construction meetings and provides minutes of same.
  • Reviews and approves all change orders and provides reports.
  • Manages community engagement projects including scheduling, marketing, presentations, visioning sessions, stakeholder interviews, data collection, management, and visualization, and cultivation of community partnerships.
  • Prepares funding proposals including research, monitoring, design, exhibits, writing, editing materials, and reimbursement claims.
  • Drafts policies, procedures, and standards related to the construction and maintenance of recreation facilities.
  • Develops requests for proposals for the procurement of equipment and professional services related to outdoor recreation facilities.
  • Works with the MPS Department of Facilities and Maintenance Services, the City of Milwaukee, and Milwaukee County Parks to align the Recreation Facilities Master Plan with the programmed capital replacement work planned at various recreation sites located throughout the city of Milwaukee.
  • Responds to constituent inquiries regarding playfield improvement projects.
  • Works with Milwaukee Recreation Marketing Team to implement standard operating procedures for Playfield Ribbon Cutting procedures.
  • Establishes partnerships with other MPS departments, schools, governmental units, agencies, and community-based organizations. Works with and maintains good relationships with other divisions, departments, neighborhood associations, and other public and private groups and organizations.
  • Assists with Recreation Department activities as needed.
  • Serves on various committees as required and assigned.
  • Actively supports the MPS Five Priorities for Success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
