ELL and Dual Language Curriculum Facilitator

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The District English Language Learner Curriculum Facilitator works with the Director of ELL and Dual Language and the ELL Data and Assessment Coordinator to coordinate District-wide assessments (excluding quarterly common assessments), placement testing for the ELL program, and ELPA summative assessment. This educator also works with teachers and administrators to assist with improving system-wide practices as well as provides coaching and support to implement research-based teaching strategies to support English Language Learners and develop and provide professional development. Their time will be 100% engaged in ELL program development.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Adheres to Board policies, District procedures, and contractual obligations.
  • Provides coaching and support to classroom and ELL teachers. May include classroom modeling of educational strategies.
  • Guides and supports teachers in the implementation of curriculum.
  • Ensure that ELL program protocols are followed as outlined in the District’s programming document (LAU Plan).
  • Maintains awareness of best practices in instructing and assessing EL students and is up to date on current research in the field.
  • Works with the Director of ELL and DL to maintain records of all EL students districtwide.
  • Supports and mentors new ELL teachers in the District.
  • Coordinates testing of EL students, including ELPA, ELL program intake assessments, and/or other state assessments.
  • Coordinates with the ELL/DL support person at each building for the following purposes: facilitate communication with other staff members; organize, plan, and facilitate professional development; coordination and implementation of assessments; student screenings and placements; student achievement data reviews; and any other matters to ensure support for staff and students.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum qualifications include a valid Iowa teaching certificate, a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in education or the appropriate content area and a minimum of three years teaching experience. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for position. English as a Second Language endorsement required. Employee is expected to demonstrate continued professional growth specific to the program(s).

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including teachers, principals, and central administration. Communication will include individual to large group presentations, and communications and reports. Individual must have effective listening skills.

FACILITATION SKILLS

Must be an effective facilitator in a variety of situations. Must have the ability to facilitate group meetings and facilitate large and small group professional development. Group facilitation includes discussion and group problem-solving processes.

PLANNING SKILLS

Must have the ability to plan for both the long-term and short-term. Planning should include data analysis, research of best practices, action steps and general logistical support.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

Position requires strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to organize and assimilate information, data, resources, scheduling, and other needs within the program(s).

ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

Individual must have the ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied. Must be able to link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Individual must be competent in research and information gathering through technology. Must also have the capability to collect and sort data through technology. The ability to present and communicate through technology is required, including spreadsheets, power point and web-based information.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

Promotes the District and program areas through positive public relations. The ELL/DL Curriculum Facilitator will be a collaborative team member that maintains positive relationships with administrators, staff, parents, and community groups.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal office physical demands. May be required to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, employee works inside.

OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED

Will perform other duties as may be assigned by the superintendent or designee, necessary and appropriate to achievement of the program and/or District goals and objectives.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

The Curriculum Facilitator retains the regular teaching contract issued in accordance with Iowa Code Chapter 279 and shall be issued a supplemental contract for a one-year assignment to the ELL/DL Curriculum Facilitator role. The supplemental contract will be for additional work on an as-needed basis beyond the career teacher contract. The scope of the work to be completed for the additional contract days will be determined by the District Leadership Team. The ELL/DL Curriculum Facilitator will receive a $2,000 stipend.

EVALUATION

Job performance will be evaluated annually by the Director of ELL and Dual Language.
