EFFECTIVE: 2023 - 2024 AND 2024 - 2025 School Years

POSITION: Audiologist

NATURE OF WORK:
The audiologist plans, directs and administers audiology services for the most effective use of services, personnel and/or materials. These services include diagnostic evaluations, direct service provision to deaf and hard of hearing children (age’s birth-21), management of assistive technology and technical/instructional support to regular and special education teachers working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide staff development in the areas of hearing loss and the implications of hearing loss for school personnel, children and parents;
  • Serve as a member of the educational team in evaluation, identification and placement of students with hearing loss;
  • Perform comprehensive audiological evaluations;
  • Develop and supervise a hearing screening program for pre-school children;
  • Make recommendations regarding placement, related service needs, communication needs and modifications of classroom environments for student with hearing loss;
  • Make recommendations for the use of hearing aids, group and classroom amplification and assistive listening devices;
  • Ensure the proper fit and function of assistive listening devices used in the classroom;
  • Interpret audiological assessment results for other school personnel, parents and students;
  • Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings for students who are deaf, hard or hearing or have a suspected hearing loss and assist in the design and implementation of instructionally appropriate accommodations, assistive technology and strategies;
  • Collaborate with regular and special education staff throughout the school year to promote the inclusion of students who are deaf or hard of hearing in the educational environment and curriculum (i.e. understanding the hearing loss, specific accommodations, and instructional technology); and
  • Provide assistive listening device evaluations and fittings and provide monitoring of the function of such devices in the educational setting once dispensed.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in Audiology or Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree;
  • Current (or eligible for) license in Audiology issued by the State of Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Board of Examiners for Audiologists, Hearing Aid Dispensers and Speech-Language Pathologists; and
  • Certification through the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) and/or the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) preferred.


TERM OF EMPLOYMENT:
Full-time ten-month position.

SALARY GRADE RANGE:

The salary for this position will be based on EASMC salary schedule for ten-month employees.
