We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider for the Duke Obstetrics and Gynecology Women’s Community and Population Health Division. Clinic locations include Duke Medicine Circle and Durham County Health Department clinics located in Durham, NC as well as Person County Health Department in Roxboro, NC. Possible clinic rotations at Warren County Health Department in Warrenton, NC and Duke Health Center Arringdon in Morrisville, NC.

The APP will work in collaboration with physicians and advanced practice providers providing direct patient care services, collecting and documenting data, performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and ordering and scheduling laboratory studies and professional consultations.

Primary hours will be Monday through Friday with hours flexible to meet the needs of the patients. Clinical and administrative sessions are generally 8:00 AM - 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. There is a possibility of Saturday hours as well as extended and alternative hours expected upon request/scheduling needs. There is a possibility of deployment to General OB-GYN sites to provide the best patient access.

Prefer 1+ years of experience as an APP in Women's Health or a new graduate WHNP with RN experience in Women's Health

Job Responsibilities

Obstetric and Postpartum Care
The APP will provide obstetric care to patients from the new obstetric visit throughout pregnancy and including the post-partum visit as follows:

  • Complete the new obstetric exam with identification of any problems complicating pregnancy or pre-existent to pregnancy
  • Initiate plan of care/diagnostic testing/interpretation of labs/treatment plan based on individual patient medical/surgical history
  • Provide patient education relating to pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care
  • Perform FHR assessment, NST interpretation, cervical exam for labor assessment
  • Urgent care visits as well as early pregnancy assessments

Gynecological Care

The APP will be responsible for management of gynecological patients for routine care and/or treatment of common gynecological problems including but not limited to:

  • All methods of family planning and counseling for reproductive life planning including IUD Placement and removal and Nexplanon insertion and removal
  • Routine Well Woman Exams and Pap Smears
  • Screening and treatment for sexually transmitted infections
  • Treatment for symptoms of menopause/perimenopause
  • Breast changes or masses
  • Pelvic/abdominal pain
  • Abnormal uterine bleeding
  • Routine Postoperative follow-up and problem visits
  • Endometrial, cervical and vulvar biopsies
  • Treatment of vulvar abscesses
  • Assessing unknown fetal location, ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage

Miscellaneous

  • Analyze clinical practice patterns so as to provide the best medical care and to increase effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Communicate verbally and in writing all pertinent patient information to supervising physician, nursing staff as well as other relevant healthcare providers.
  • Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical record of all relevant data including results of diagnostic tests; laboratory results; patients’ condition and response to therapies/interventions and communications with physician/advanced practice provider colleagues.
  • Provide timely response to patients Maestro Care and phone messages.

Job Eligibility Requirements

Education

  • Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master's degree in Nursing.

Certification

  • BLS required.

License

  • Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required prior to or within 6 months of employment.
