General Statement of Duties
Plans and supervises general recreational programs or assists in the development and administration of a specialized recreation program on a County-wide basis; does related work as required.

Essential Duties
Good knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of community recreation and specifically of recreation program planning and promotion in the assigned specialty area; good knowledge and understanding of the special needs and interests of the segment of the population served by the assigned program area; ability to effectively plan, implement and coordinate the activities of a specialized recreation program; good organizational skills; skill in research and the ability to evaluate needs and to develop appropriate programming recommendations; some supervisory skill; ability to cooperate with and effectively work with public and private organizations and business, civic and volunteer groups and the general citizenry; ability to work on own initiative without close supervision or guidance; effective oral and written communications skills; ability to keep accurate records; ability to maintain budgetary controls.
- Worksite locations will be Eastern Henrico Recreation Center and Deep Run Recreation Center.
- Instructors will assist with oversight and monitoring of the Fitness Center and Group Exercise Room.
- Assist with planning and implementing community fitness and wellness programming, operations of the fitness center, fitness classes and activities for the general public both onsite within the facility and on a County wide basis for the Division of Recreation & Parks.
- Assist in orientations, monitor equipment use, inquiries, registrations, tours and fitness class instruction.
- Good knowledge of the philosophy and objectives of the fitness and wellness field, specific experience and credentialed skill in personal training and / or group exercise instruction is required.
- Good knowledge of community recreation, recreation program planning, special needs and interests of the segment of the population served by the assigned program area.
- Good organization skills and ability to work on own initiative without close supervision or guidance.
Minimum Qualifications
Possession of a bachelor's degree in recreation or a field directly related to the needs of the assigned position, and one (1) year of related work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Additional Information
Position requires an accredited personal trainer or group exercise certification - AFAA, ACE, NASM, ACSM or AFPA. The Fitness Instructor MUST be a certified personal trainer or group exercise instructor.
A criminal history record check and fingerprinting is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee.
- Required to have a valid Commonwealth of Virginia drivers license with good driving record.
- Flexible work schedule, including varying shifts during days, nights and weekends not to exceed 29 hours per week.
