JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a Patient Care Technician in our Duke GI-Endoscopy at Brier Creek located in Raleigh, NC to be an integral member of the healthcare team to provide direct and indirect care to patients.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.
  • Explain procedures to patient, allay their fear and elicit cooperation.
  • Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, attaching vital sign equipment, and positioning the patient.
  • Assist physician and nursing personnel during diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures to include, handling instruments and equipment, calling out equipment readings, and handling specimens while maintaining infection control standards.
  • Manually clean endoscopes and then perform the proper process to complete high level disinfection of these scopes.
  • Distribute supplies as needed and maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Assist nurse with transporting the patient into the procedure room and to recovery after the procedure.
  • Obtain family members from the waiting room once patient is in recovery, assist patients to restroom when needed and obtain refreshments for patients.
  • Clean and dress stretchers in preparation for next patient.
  • Clean procedure rooms, including procedural tables, countertops, floor mats and wall suction systems.

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a related 1 year technical school program.
  • Generally requires two years of experience in health care specialties; an additional two years of experience may be substituted for the technical school. Or an equivalent combination of relevant education and /or experience.

JOB HOURS:

The schedule for this position is day shifts (8am to 4:30pm) Monday-Friday, with no weekends, holidays, or call.
