Salary Range: $21.37 - $22.90 hourly

What You'll Do:


L1 (Apprentice)

  • Under the direction L2 or L3 technicians: Assists with and or performs all functions of the L2 (Journeyman) and L3 (Master or Multi-Skilled) level position.

L2 (Journeyman)

  • Communicates and coordinates with staff at work site.
  • Prepares and cleans up job site, taking into consideration safety concerns of self and others, and disposes of waste and flammable materials.
  • Performs District landscape and arboreal management and maintenance according to International Society of Arboricultural standards.
  • Prunes, shapes, removes, trims branches for trees, shrub, and landscape health management and preservation. Removes and grinds stumps using stump grinder and related safety equipment.
  • Plants and maintains plant beds. Identifies landscape pests, diseases and weeds, performs control measures or refers to appropriate entity.
  • Measures and marks athletic fields for DPS athletic events. Supervises planting activities by community groups.
  • Reviews work orders, prioritizes, and determine supplies for repair and purchases supplies using District purchase order system.
  • Performs work and cross trains in at least one other trade as an apprentice.
  • Assists with snow removal efforts on a 24 hour on-call basis.
  • Responds to emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

L3 (Master or Multi-Skilled)

  • Trains and mentors staff.
  • Bids on work requested by schools, and prepares quote.
  • Inspects work of independent contractors, identifies deficiencies, and communicates with project manager about correcting deficiencies according to code (e.g., city, state) and DPS specifications.
  • Delivers training to Facility Maintenance staff.

What You’ll Need:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two (2) years related experience.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Colorado Driver's License and meet District insurability standards.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Formal training and/or five (5) years experience in landscape maintenance of commercial or public properties and/or Formal training and or five years experience in tree and woody plant maintenance.
  • Formal training and or five years experience in landscape maintenance of commercial or public properties and/or Formal training and or five years experience in tree and woody plant maintenance.
  • Formal training and or experience in construction and maintenance of landscape structures.
  • Formal training and or experience in the control of landscape pests (insects, diseases and weeds). Experience in the use of survey equipment to establish grades and layout and install site landscaping.
  • Experience in the requirements of establishing and maintaining of safe landscape areas.
