Description

Provide direct support, instructional leadership, coordination, and supervision to the MPS K-12 Bilingual Dual Language Education Program throughout the regular school year and summer school. Assume responsibility for curricular development, as well as the design and evaluation of the K-12 Bilingual Education Program. Maintain and comply with regulations, policies, and procedures related to bilingual education, English Learners, and Title IIIA.

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications

A master¿s degree in a field of education and a minimum of seven (7) years of successful teaching experience in a bilingual (English/Spanish) program classroom.

· Supervisor/Coordinator/Director of Instruction License (10) or ability to obtain within two years

· Certification in the area of Bilingual Education is a must

Experience Qualifications

A minimum of seven (7) years of successful teaching experience in a bilingual (English/Spanish) program classroom.

Understanding of the principles of language pedagogy and the demonstrated ability gained through teaching experience.

Computer skills required with experience in word processing, database, and spreadsheet applications.

Demonstrated leadership and supervision experience.

NOTE:Applicants that do not currently hold this license or have not completed a certification program awarding this license, may still qualify for the position if they enroll in and complete a certification program awarding the #10 Director of Instruction within 2 years. Until you complete the certification program, the District will request the license on your behalf upon appointment to the position for a maximum of two years.

Responsibilities

Provide leadership in the development of the Bilingual Program Pedagogical Framework K-12.

§ Provide leadership in the implementation of district-wide policies and initiatives, related to the curriculum and assessment process and/or practices in the Bilingual Education Program.

§ Provide direct support, supervision, and coordination of the Bilingual Education Program curriculum with the appropriate staff.

§ Provide support to schools in the implementation of the Bilingual Education Program.

§ Provide support to Central Services staff and school administrators concerning the goals and objectives of the Bilingual Education Program.

§ Work collaboratively with staff within the Department of Bilingual Multicultural Education including Lau Compliance staff to comply with State and Federal mandates.

§ Work collaboratively with staff from other district offices, departments, and divisions to comply with State and Federal mandates regarding English Learners and Title IIIA for public and non-public education.

§ Establish and maintain relationships with parents, community leaders, and non-MPS parties including community-based organizations, professional affiliations, institutions of higher learning, businesses, and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

§ Work collaboratively with the district¿s English as a Second Language Curriculum Specialist for appropriate implementation and professional development regarding, but not limited to, content and language integration.

§ Work collaboratively with the Extended Learning Opportunities team for Bilingual Summer School Program design and implementation, grades K-12.

§ Actively support MPS Five Priorities for Success and Strategic Plan.

§ Perform and complete other duties as assigned.
