General Statement of Duties

This vacancy is located in Zone 3. Vacancy open until filled. In the role of "Dispatcher," the incumbent in this position (one per zone) maintains continuous awareness of routes, runs, trips, vehicle assignments and all other aspects of the daily transportation operations within a zone office. Maintains communication with schools and parents utilizing a variety of systems. Work hours are from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. & 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Essential Duties

  • Focuses daily efforts on communicating operational information with parents and schools;
  • Maintains continuous awareness of routes, trip vehicle assignments and all other aspects of the daily operation of the transportation program;
  • Works collaboratively with Assistant Supervisors to record planned daily operations in a format that is suitable for transmission to external parties such as schools, parents and Central Office;
  • Also works collaboratively with zone office staff to record the status of buses under repair or inspection and assignments of spare or substitute buses to drivers;
  • Ensures that daily operations cover each bus route/run/trip/shuttle and are recorded in the GPS system and also a “Parent App” that provides the GPS location of buses - information must include the actual bus number covering each run;
  • Also ensures that daily operations to cover each bus route/run/trip/shuttle are recorded and transmitted to school staff and the Central Pupil Transportation Office - information must include the actual bus number and identification of drivers and assistants that will be covering each run;
  • Monitors the GPS system for awareness of buses that are running behind schedule;
  • Communicates notifications of late buses to parents utilizing the electronic notification system. Notices are sent when the daily plan will result in late buses due to a lack of resources. Notices are also sent when the Bus Driver Dispatcher is informed of a bus that is behind schedule or if the GPS system indicates that a bus is behind schedule;
  • Answers telephone calls and directs to the appropriate staff member;
  • Responds to emergency telephone requests as appropriate, referring to the Transportation Supervisor as needed;
  • Operates the base station radio as needed for the two-way communications on vehicles assigned to the Department;
  • Assists with the retrieval, review and confidential sharing of video footage from the vehicle digital video recorders;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Commercial Driver’s License is not required. High school diploma or equivalent; general knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, equipment and techniques; ability to type accurately and at a reasonable rate of speed; ability to make arithmetical calculations; ability to answer inquiries and assist the general public in a courteous manner - excellent customer service skills required; ability to operate a variety of office equipment; skill in the use of data, spreadsheet and word processing software; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; ability to follow oral and written instructions, ability to work well under pressure; ability to organize and perform work independently.

Additional Information

Minimum salary - $19.96/hour or $32,256.15 annually. The salary for this position will be prorated based upon the official start date.

This is a full-time, 8 hour/day position/202-day contract.
