JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a Medical Assistant/Ophthalmic Scribe at North Carolina Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat (NCEENT) in Durham, NC (and satellite locations). This position performs varied clerical/clinical duties, assists the physicians and clinical staff in maintaining an efficient and effective clinical operation.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Accompany physician during patient examination. Document examination findings and/or procedures performed by the physician

  • Place orders as dictated by the physician

  • Document results of testing and labs as dictated by the physician

  • Maintain and demonstrate an understanding of the team approach to patient care and documentation

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to document patient care as dictated by the physician within the electronic medical record

  • Assist and direct patients within the clinic setting

  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms and testing/procedure areas per clinic guidelines

  • Match records against source documents to verify accuracy of records and compliance with rules and procedures of appropriate system; resolve discrepancies in records by contacting appropriate office to obtain information on source of discrepancy and following through on changing any errors in documentation

  • Treat all patient information and communication regarding patient care with complete confidentiality and comply with all HIPPA regulations

  • Assist patient and physician during laser procedures

  • Perform ancillary testing, including but not limited to Visual Field testing and OCT testing

  • Travel to Satellite Locations for scheduled shifts

  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein

JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • High school education or equivalent

  • Six months of health care experience required
