Student Nutrition Manager-in-Training (MIT) Program

The Student Nutrition Manager-in-Training (MIT) program is the gateway to become a SNS Manager.

This paid intern program consists of extensive, hands-on training and weekly classroom instruction.

MIT's gain valuable experience in elementary and secondary level food service management by rotating through school sites.

Successful graduates of the program will be eligible to apply for a school site manager position.

Steps to follow...

1) Complete an AppliTrack application and have your application become “active.”
* Please upload to your application:
- any certificates and/or official school transcripts to your application
- a current, updated resume with all relevant food service experience listed.
* On your application, in the Reference Section, please provide two professional references from supervisors or managers. These are required as part of the application review process. References will be sent a form from the AppliTrack system after you click "Finish and Submit." We cannot accept "letters of reference" or references from friends and/or family. The references must be from one current supervisor or manager and one past supervisor or manager. Once you have submitted your application, please follow up with a phone call to Sandra Calderon at (813) 605-5159 to ensure your application has been received.

2) Pass a basic skills test

3) Interview with the MIT Program committee

At any of the above steps, the applicant may no longer be considered for the program if basic criteria are not met.

Successful completion of the program is necessary before one becomes eligible for school food service management. This includes demonstrating competencies in functional areas of responsibilities, achieving passing grades on all assessments, and obtaining recommendations from training managers and the intern's supervisor.

Requirements:

Education: A bachelor’s degree. Degree or formal training in Food Service preferred.

Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in food service, with three years of related management or supervisory experience required. Verified experience as described above may substitute on a two for one basis for the college education requirement. A post graduate (Masters or higher) degree in Food Service or related field may substitute for one year of the experience requirement.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Selected applicants must pass and maintain Serv-Safe certification.
