POSITION TITLE: Media Specialist Position
DEPARTMENT: West End Elementary
WORK DAYS: 190
REPORTS TO: Principal and Administration
PAY SCALE: Based on certification and years of experience
JOB SUMMARY: The Elementary Media Specialist serves as a key resource in fostering literacy, integrating technology, and supporting student and staff educational goals. This role requires leadership in managing the school library/media center, supporting instructional practices, troubleshooting technology, and building relationships with students, coworkers, and stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Master’s Degree preferred; Certification as a Media Specialist (K-12) required
Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of experience in education preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities:
- Proficiency in troubleshooting Chromebooks, laptops, and interactive boards.
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
- Comprehensive knowledge of computers, educational websites, and subscription services.
- Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse groups of stakeholders.
- A passion for literacy and its importance in the lives of students and the school community.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Literacy Development and Promotion:
- Foster a love for reading and literacy among students, staff, and stakeholders.
- Curate and maintain an engaging collection of books and digital resources to support the curriculum and diverse student needs.
Technology Integration and Support:
- Provide troubleshooting for Chromebooks, laptops, and interactive boards.
- Offer training and guidance for students and staff on educational technology and software.
- Ensure that all technology resources are effectively utilized to enhance teaching and learning
Media Center Management:
- Organize, manage, and maintain the library/media center resources and schedule.
- Oversee subscriptions to educational websites and resources.
- Develop organizational systems for efficient resource usage.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Build strong relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders to create a welcoming and collaborative learning environment.
- Oversee and manage the school-level website, ensuring it is updated and accurate.
- Partner with teachers to integrate media and technology into classroom instruction.
Instructional Support:
- Assist teachers in locating, evaluating, and using media and technology tools to enhance classroom instruction.
- Support classroom management strategies through media and technology integration.
Professional Development and Compliance:
- Stay current with best practices and advancements in media, literacy, and educational technology.
- Ensure all resources and activities align with district and state policies.
Professionalism and Code of Ethics:
- Maintain the highest standards of professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and stakeholders.
- Adhere to the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (PSC) Code of Ethics for educators.
- Serve as a role model for ethical behavior and professional responsibility.
Dress Code Expectations:
- Follow and exemplify the professional dress code of Rome City Schools.
- Maintain a polished, professional appearance that reflects the standards of the district and the importance of the role.
Other Duties:
- Perform all additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned to serve the needs of students, employees, and stakeholders of Rome City Schools.
The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.
