Reading Intervention Specialist
Reading Intervention is a tutoring model.

Teacher Work Hours: Varies (due to nature of the delivery model)
Total Number of Hours per Session = up to 14 hours per student / group, to be detailed via a timesheet; this includes 9 sessions, 1 hour each, over the course of the summer, plus additional time for planning, progress monitoring, and communication with families and home school reading specialists.
Pay Rate = $32.50/hour
Session Dates: June 9-August 8

Certification: Reading Specialist
Preference: experience as a high school reading specialist

Job Description:
The Summer School Reading Intervention Specialist for high school works one-on-one or with small groups of students who are reading below grade level and need intense and explicit support for rapid reading growth. Instruction takes place in a 9 week tutoring. Tutoring sessions take place in-person or virtually once per week for 60 minutes, with asynchronous work for the students who would like to earn 0.25 or 0.5 elective credit for Literacy Lab.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaboration with the Lead Reading Teacher and/or Curriculum Coordinator.
  • Communication with families to set up a tutoring schedule.
  • Evaluation of student needs.
  • Lesson design for tutoring sessions.
  • Facilitation of tutoring sessions.
  • Design of asynchronous work.
  • Progress monitoring.
  • Grading and reporting.
  • Timesheet tracking.

In-Person Tutoring Environment:
In-person tutoring can take place in a Parkway building, public library, or other mutually agreed upon location between the RIS and the family. Locations outside of a Parkway building need to be agreed upon in writing. If a student is taking credit recovery during a Parkway summer school session, the RIS can pull them from the credit recovery course for in-person tutoring.

Important Notes:
  • This position is dependent on students’ acceptance of Parkway’s invitation to participate.
  • The number of students served by each RIS offered a position is determined by the RIS in collaboration with the Curriculum Coordinator and Director of Choice Programs.
