General Job Description

Analyze and evaluate various sources of clinical and financial data in support of clinical service lines to reduce cost improve quality and further the goals and objectives of Health System administration.

Work Performed

  • Coordinate collection, interpretation and analyses of clinical and financial data to respond to proposals for new products, services and/or programs. Identify and validate sources of data to include, but not limited to, medical records, financial data, competitor data, patient volumes, benchmark data from other institutions and utilization data.
  • Develop and produce reports that monitor and benchmark cost, utilization and other quality and performance indicators.
  • Prepare and coordinate distribution of various financial reports and analyses for senior management and external agencies to include financial analysis of clinical service lines.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and management of tools used for analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain liaison with business unit financial managers and administrative staff in the preparation and analysis of financial reports, to provide information and to resolve problems concerning variances from approved budget.
  • Assist in the ongoing evaluation of products, programs and/or clinical initiatives; recommend modifications and corrective actions to existing practices as appropriate.
  • Maintain liaison with Duke University Affiliated Physicians (DUAP), administrators and clinical personnel to facilitate progress of clinical service line programs and objectives. Prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described above.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

Work requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field.

Experience
Work requires six years of experience in financial management, cost accounting or a field directly related to specialized area of assignment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate with customers/staff with diverse educational backgrounds. Analysis of data and processes for opportunities for improvement. Experience with data analysis and visualization tools. Ability to manage numerous diverse projects simultaneously through effective priority setting, efficient use of time and organization. Attention to detail and accuracy.
