Responsibilities:
The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the Principal in providing leadership, supervision, and administration of the school’s educational programs, staff, and operations. This role focuses on fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes academic and social-emotional growth for all students. The Assistant Principal serves as an instructional leader, supports staff development, collaborates with families, and ensures compliance with district policies and state regulations.
Instructional Leadership
Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the school’s curriculum and instructional practices.
Support teachers in using data-driven decision-making to improve student achievement.
Promote the use of evidence-based instructional strategies and interventions to support diverse learners.
Participate in classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to support teacher growth and professional development
Student Support and Behaviou Management
Foster a positive, inclusive school culture that prioritizes students' academic, social, and emotional well-being.
Implement and monitor behavior management systems aligned with restorative practices and the district’s Code of Conduct.
Collaborate with staff to develop and implement individualized behavior plans for students as needed.
Serve as a resource for students and families, addressing concerns and providing support to enhance student success.
Oversee and coordinate the student support team, ensuring timely and effective responses to calls for assistance.
Monitor and analyze data related to support team calls to identify patterns, inform intervention planning, and improve school-wide safety practices.
Family and Community Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with families, acting as a liaison between families and the school.
Support the Principal in communicating regularly with families about school programs, events, and student progress.
Participate in parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and community events.
Staff Supervision and Development
Assist in the recruitment, supervision, and evaluation of teachers and support staff.
Support professional learning initiatives and facilitate staff development opportunities.
Build strong relationships with staff to encourage collaboration and shared problem-solving.
Facilitate a culture of continuous improvement and collective efficacy.
School Operations and Management
Assist the Principal in managing daily school operations, including scheduling, facilities oversight, and resource allocation.
Support the development and implementation of school improvement plans aligned with district goals.
Ensure compliance with district policies, state regulations, and federal laws.
Oversee safety protocols, including emergency procedures, drills, and crisis response plans.
Serve as the school’s MCAS test administrator, overseeing all aspects of state assessment administration, including scheduling, staff training, managing secure testing materials, and ensuring compliance with state protocols.
Create and maintain the school-wide schedule, balancing instructional time, special programs, and shared spaces to maximize learning opportunities.
Equity and Inclusion
Support the implementation of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework to ensure all students receive appropriate academic and behavioral interventions.
Collaborate with staff to use data for identifying student needs, monitoring progress, and adjusting interventions as necessary
Promote equity and inclusion by ensuring all students have access to high-quality educational opportunities.
Address disparities in student achievement and engagement by implementing culturally responsive practices.
Collaborate with staff to create a welcoming and respectful school environment for all.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience
Master’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
Massachusetts licensure as an Assistant Principal/Principal (or eligibility for licensure).
Minimum of five years of teaching experience, preferably at the elementary level.
Previous experience in a leadership role is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong knowledge of elementary curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
Experience fostering accountability, promoting empathy, and supporting conflict resolution.
Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including students, staff, families, and community members.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable school environment.
