General Statement of Duties

Plans, organizes and engages in paraprofessional and highly skilled technical work in support of the STOP Program for the Henrico Juvenile Detention Center; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

This position is for a relief pool for STOP (Service Through Opportunity Program) workers.

Maintaining accurate records of juveniles placed on the court ordered STOP program. Provide direction, instruction, feedback, supervision and effective management of individual cases assigned. Ability to interpret regulatory and program policy information, ability to interpret and report monitoring and evaluation of findings; ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form; ability to work effectively with other employees and with the public; ability to exercise discretion and to make sound decisions relative to their assigned program area. Monitor juveniles placed on the program using various curfew checks techniques to make sure they are abiding by the program rules. This program is an alternative to weekend sentencing in secure detention, in which up to 10 juveniles will complete court ordered community service under the supervision of STOP staff. Staff will document attendance, compliance, and performance of each participant in their assigned case file. Staff will monitor and counsel youth during activities to maintain a safe, secure, and productive environment and provide crisis intervention when necessary. Staff will be trained and certified to administer First Aid and CPR as required and will assist in maintenance and organization of vehicles and equipment used to complete assigned work. The majority of the work assignment is performed outdoors at Henrico County Parks and approved locations.

Minimum Qualifications

Possession of an associate's degree with courses in accounting, business or public administration, statistics, report preparation, research and/or planning, and three years experience relevant to the program or service area to which assigned; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Additional Information

A criminal history record check, fingerprinting, CPS, and physical is conducted on all persons conditionally offered employment, including a conditional offer of initial employment, or a conditional offer to promote, demote, or laterally transfer an employee. Valid drivers license needed and DMV background check conducted.

Normal work hours are between 7:30 AM and 3:30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, assigned staff will complete curfew checks by phone on Friday's and Saturday's, after 4:00 PM to ensure accountability of participants.
