General Statement of Duties
This is a 220 day contract. The candidate must possess a comprehensive knowledge of math acquisition and pedagogy, learning theory, and best practices for effective Tier I, II, and III instruction.
Henrico County Public Schools has designated select schools with high rates of vacant positions and provisionally licensed staff as Opportunity School through the HCPS Career Ladder. This is a new pathway within the Career Ladder through which entire schools, selected by HCPS, receive compensation supplements, additional staffing resources and specialized professional learning.
Candidates must demonstrate abilities to
- provide school-level leadership in the areas of mathematics,
- work collaboratively with all members of the school and division team,
- provide support to teachers in planning and delivering instruction,
- analyze student performance data and create action plans, and
- deliver high quality instruction to meet individual and group needs.
Coaching is also a key component of this position. Candidates should demonstrate an understanding of adult learning and instructional coaching best-practices that use state standards, division curriculum, research-based strategies, and student data to increase student achievement.
Essential Duties
- Provide daily leadership and support for elementary mathematics instruction through coaching, participation on school action teams, collaboration with school leadership, and direct work with teachers
- Support teachers in the implementation of all facets of math instruction through the use of coaching strategies, including but not limited to participating in coaching cycles, modeling of instruction, co-teaching, and collaborative planning
- Assist teachers in the use of data to identify student needs, form groups, select resources, and inform instruction
- Assist math interventionists in the use of data to identify student needs, planning and delivering instruction
- Participate in collaborative planning to support the implementation of the HCPS Instructional Model, use of aligned curriculum, and integration of research based practices in math instruction
- Assist teachers with the selection of instructional materials that adhere to the HPCS aligned curriculum, stimulate learning, and meet the needs of all students in a learner-centered classroom
- Collaborate with school leadership to identify mathematical needs based upon data, develop school math goals that address the need, and implement a plan to achieve the goals
- Use school data to design and deliver professional learning experiences for instructional and additional staff that supports math instruction, address school goals, and align with HCPS Instructional Model
- Establish trust, rapport, and credibility with entire school community
- Facilitate conversations with individual teachers, grade level teams, whole staffs, and other groups
- Communicate and collaborate with other staff including but not limited to exceptional education, LIEP, gifted, interventionist, and division level coaches to support learning for all students
- Collaborate withTitle I lead instructional coaches, coordinator and the Title I specialist, including attending monthly math and Title I professional learning
- Participate in ongoing personal professional learning experiences in which coaches examine their own practice, share ideas, problem solve and develop best practices expertise and tools as a means of enhancing the instructional practices of all teachers and improving student achievement
- Assist with the creation of family engagement events and school-wide initiatives that promotes math
- Maintain an inventory of Title I materials to include but not limited to mathematics materials and ensure materials are in an accessible location in the school
- Stay abreast of current educational trends and best practices as these relate to classroom instruction, effective schools, and student achievement
- Use expertise as a math leader to deliver small group instruction, as needed
- Maintains professional manner when interacting with students, families, school and division staff, patrons, and community agencies
- Maintain documentation to ensure Title I is in compliance with local, state and federal guidelines and processes
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree with a Mathematics Specialist endorsement is preferred
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience required
- Experience in grades K through 5
Additional Information
** Minimum annual starting salary: $60,239 (Masters) / $63,126 (Doctoral).
The annual salary stated in this posted is based on the 2023-2024 adopted fiscal plan. The annual salary for the 2024-2025 SY will be determined when the HCPS School Board approved / adopts the fiscal plan budget later this Spring.
