General Statement of Duties

260-day position (12 month) Plus an opportunity school stipend. Glen Lea Elementary School will be the home school, but this position will also support a second Elementary school.


The Gifted Teacher is a full-time, 12-month teacher position assigned to work in designated elementary Title I schools and Central Office. This individual is responsible for supporting the Gifted Specialist in developing, leading, implementing, and monitoring talent development programs and services in elementary Title I schools in Henrico County. The Gifted Teacher will be responsible for growing advanced academic programming in Title I schools that have low numbers of identified gifted students. Their primary objective will be to identify, support, and nurture the talents and abilities of students who may be underrepresented or underserved. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of talent development strategies, have a passion for educational equity, and be adept at collaborating with various stakeholders to create meaningful opportunities for students. Additionally, the Gifted Teacher will support Henrico gifted staff in delivering talent development services and opportunities to K-5 students with potential.

Essential Duties


  • Serve as elementary gifted resource teacher in assigned Title I schools.
  • Assist the Gifted Specialist in developing a comprehensive process to identify and serve students who demonstrate advanced academic potential in Title I schools with low numbers of identified gifted students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to gather data, assess student performance, and identify students who may benefit from advanced academic programming and talent development opportunities.
  • Create curriculum units, materials, and assessments to support the delivery of talent development programming content.
  • Provide ongoing professional development opportunities for teachers and staff to enhance their understanding of talent development and the implementation of advanced academic programming.
  • Collaborate with educators to identify instructional strategies and resources that promote differentiated instruction and challenge students at various levels.
  • Build strong partnerships with administrators, teachers, parents, and community organizations to promote awareness and support for advanced academic programming in Title I schools.
  • Collaborate with district-level personnel and external experts to access additional resources, funding opportunities, and research-based practices to enhance talent development efforts.
  • Advocate for the needs of advanced learners and ensure their inclusion and representation within school-wide initiatives, decision-making processes, and support services.
  • Collect and analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of talent development programming and make data-driven decisions for continuous improvement and expansion.
  • Foster positive relationships with community partners, businesses, and organizations to secure resources, mentorship opportunities, and enrichment experiences for students in advanced academic programming.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in an educational subject area.
  • A valid professional teaching certificate is required with an endorsement in Gifted Education preferred.

  • 5 years minimum experience providing specialized services to gifted students.

Additional Information

Minimum *** annual starting salary: $67,926 Bachelor's or $71,187 Masters. *Annual salary will be prorated based on actual start date.

Additionally, the position will include a $3,000 stipend.
